GM1 RÉIMERMONOUMENT / MONOUMENT ROMAIN

Starting point: Bus station at the Machera Cultural Center

Distance: 12 km; Duration: 3½ hours

Difficulty level: Easy

Route description:

From the starting point, the route heads toward the market square through Rue de Luxembourg. It then climbs the Kreuzerberg, following the 14 Stations of the Cross, up to the Kreuzkapelle (Chapel of the Cross) built in 1737.

On the hill called Hougeriicht—where in the Middle Ages and up to modern times justice was administered for serious crimes (today only the place name remains)—there is an impressive viewpoint at Longkaul, where a rockslide occurred centuries ago. From here you have a spectacular view over the vineyards and the Moselle valley.

The path then continues after crossing Oberdonvener Strasse, passing through the Baambësch forest to the Réimerdenkmol, a Gallo-Roman funerary monument located along the former Roman road between Metz and Trier, heading toward Potaschberg.

Where today industrial and artisanal zones dominate, potash was once extracted. Here the route crosses National Road 1, after which the path leads into the forest area called Groussfooscht.

Finally, the trail passes through residential areas—Grueweréck, Rue de Wecker, and Rue des Remparts (where remains of the former fortress can still be seen)—before reaching the market square in the town center.

From here, the path continues across the road toward the village of Münschecker. It then leads through fields and meadows, followed by a short section along the road.

After crossing a bridge, the route turns left and runs alongside the A1 motorway toward Päerdsmoart, a place where horse trading used to take place.
